Dance Etiquette Tips

(click [+] to expand)

Anyone can ask anyone to dance.

Anyone can dance either role.

  • Ask a variety of people to dance

  • Feel empowered to say no without explanation or consequence

  • Feel empowered to say yes

  • Make and accept nos with grace and kindness

  • “Do you have a role preference?”

  • “Do you have any injuries or body mechanics I should know about?”

  • “Would you like to be twirled?”

A walkthrough is done at the beginning of each dance so you know what to do when the music starts. Pay attention to the caller for a smooth experience.

  • Be aware of your body in space and that of those around you.

  • Take care of yourself and others

  • Your body is your own, and others are their own

  • Never force a twirl or other flourish

  • Dance with who’s coming at you, don’t assume their roles

  • Gently help out those who are lost

  • Make mistakes! We all will anyway, so enjoy it and move on
